GRETA GAINES BIO

Champion snowboarder, fly-fisherman, singer/songwriter, TV host, sportscaster, spokesperson – these are the career accomplishments of the dynamic Greta Gaines; a business savvy woman with an appetite for pushing limits and breaking barriers.

From arts to athletics, business to politics, entertainment to motherhood, there isn’t much that Gaines hasn’t covered.

After graduating from Georgetown University, Gaines found herself snowboarding the mountains of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, by day, and singing her songs in cowboy bars by night.  In 1992, Gaines won the first Women’s Extreme Snowboarding Championship in Alaska, launching her as a recognizable figure in the sports world.  She was soon hosting MTV’s Sports and Music Festival and programs on ESPN and ESPN2.  In 1999, Oxygen created Freeride with Greta Gaines, a show dedicated to lifestyle, music, extreme sports, and the environment.

Amidst the accolades and opportunities afforded to her through her athletic achievements, Gaines never lost sight of her passion for music.  She formed her own record label, Big Air Records, and released her eponymous debut album in 1999.  Since then, Gaines has had a slot on the Lilith Fair; toured with Tori Amos, Alanis Morissette, and Sheryl Crow; and performed alongside legends like John Mellencamp.  Gaines seamlessly incorporated her music with her sports and television ventures by licensing her music for use on ESPN, MTV, VH1, and Oxygen, as theme songs and for musical programming.  Greta’s Vendetta, her first album since 2008’s Whiskey Thoughts, will be released in 2012 on Big Air Records/Fontana/Universal.

In a career that spans 20 years and counting, Gaines has not only been a pioneering female force in sports, but in politics as well.  Gaines was also a NORMAL National Board Member.  She has also been busy with the creation of a new multimedia online business for the savvy cannabis consumer.  You can watch her alter ego Gigi Ganjay’s daily webisodes on stoner crafts and snacks on her own www.CANNIBUZZ.com.  Gaines has become a featured speaker on marijuana and motherhood and “re-thinking the leaf” when it comes to industrial hemp and medical marijuana law reform.
